It was a game of missed chances and forgotten photographs as Charles Saer ended the first half of their league campaign with a 2-1 defeat to The Breck.
On a very windy evening things began well and a classy team performance was definitely on the cards. Charles Saer started well and were the dominant team throughout the first half, once again creating a number of chances (although not perhaps as clear cut as the previous weeks).
Midway through the first half Charles Saer took a deserved lead as a good through ball from Connor found Leo who drilled the ball low into the far corner. Charles Saer continued to dominate and it was only due to a very dubious penalty decision that gave The Breck their first real chance on goal. They netted powerfully to make it 1-1 at half time.
The second half continued much like the first with Charles Saer pressing for a winner. A number of chances from corners were created, however, once again the boys in burgundy fail to convert them.
Connor hit a powerful free kick that was superbly saved down to the keepers left and in the scramble that followed Declan thought he had scored only for the ball to be cleared off the line at the last minute.
It was then Harvey’s turn to go close with a thunderous shot that the keeper managed to parry against the crossbar. It seemed like it wasn’t going to be Charles Saer’s day!!
And that feeling was compounded when a rare attack from The Breck left their centre forward with a one on one against Kenzie. The forward then tripped over the ball and diverted to sideways straight into his team mates path… this left Kenzie stranded and an easy tap in for The Breck. A very unlucky goal to concede!!!
Charles Saer continued to push for the equaliser but it just wasn’t to be and they had to settle for a disappointing defeat in a game where they were clearly the better team.
Player of the match – Connor – a real captains display both in defence and midfield
